Definitely a sign of the times.

When you’re auctioning your platinum 5-carat engagement ring to keep your business afloat, it’s a sad day.

With only $70 to her name and over $100,000 in personal and professional debt, Fashion and Accessories Designer, Lisa Aviva Bleviss, auctions her nearly 5 carat diamond engagement ring for $1.00 on website (item #2 on the Homepage). Designer Lisa Aviva decided to close a chapter of her life and sell her engagement ring to pay the remaining debt left from a failed business and relationship, after discovering the website through a Google search.

Lisa Aviva Bleviss launched her men’s accessories company, http://www.AvivaUnderpants.com, in November 2005. Starting with only a few items, Lisa Aviva expanded the line to include over 90 products for the Fall/Holiday 08/09 season. With orders from over 15 department stores (Holt Renfrew and TakashimayaJapan) and 20 boutiques in Canada, the US and Japan and on the brink of success, Lisa Aviva’s personal life fell to pieces.

In July 2008, Lisa Aviva and her fiancé dissolved their relationship. When he left, Lisa Aviva’s fiancé stole the company’s production fabrics and production samples, valued at roughly $25,000. Unable to deliver her most important season yet – Lisa Aviva was forced to cancel her Fall/Holiday orders and close the company’s doors.

With fabric unpaid for and creditors calling, Lisa Aviva explored her options. Not wanting to declare bankruptcy, but with a failed business and few assets, her options were limited. With a beautiful, but now useless engagement ring in her possession, Lisa decided that the time had arrived to close this chapter of her life. Coming across the website, “I Do Now I Don’t,” Lisa knew that she had found the solution to her problem. Posting her ring online was simple. In order to facilitate a sale, Lisa Aviva began the auction at $1.00.

The complete story of Lisa Aviva’s custom ring can be found on http://www.IDoNowIDont.com. Lisa says, “I was originally planning to use the funds from the sale of the ring to launch a plus-size women’s collection, but due to the current economic climate, I have had to reevaluate my plans.”

  1. It is a sorry thing that Lisa Aviva decided to auction her engagement ring. This recession is having a deep impact on everyone. I wish she could find a way to get over this.

  2. Where can I find the link to this $1 auction?
