In such a stinky economy, retailers are trying to make money however they can.

Now Ashely Stewart Stores has indicated that they will host  a special “Celebrating History” event on Monday, January 19, 2009.

Ashley Stewart will mark Prez-elect Obama’s inauguration by

  • offering customers a 15% discount off of their entire purchase
  • providing customers with “Yes We Can” t-shirts for $10.00 at all 218 locations.
  • providing music and entertainment in stores and light refreshments at select locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Chicago, DC/Baltimore, and Maryland,
  • distributing “Yes We Can” pins as a free gift with purchase for customers shopping in stores on that day

Go on into Ashley Stewart and get some free stuff.

The retailer will also be donating 5% of proceeds from the day’s sales to a scholarship fund for students at Howard University (my alma mater!!!)  in Washington, DC.

Now that economy is on the fritz, I get the feeling lots of fashionistas will be swallowing their pride.

For some it might mean average department stores instead of Saks or Barneys.

For others, it might mean Target (It’s not bad enough for us to consider Wal-Mart for fashion finds yet. Touch wood).

So you might be pleased to see Target’s newest unveiling of their Go International collection.

Not bad style-wise and definitely easier on the pocket.

Say “bye, bye” to clothing at ridiculous prices and too-good-to-be-true fabulous finds from Sarah Jessica Parker.

But first, say “hello” to Steve & Barry’s LIQUIDATION SALES!

They’ll last five to seven weeks, with some stores closing sooner.

According to AP reports, the inventory to be liquidated is worth about $250 million.

As we know, Steve & Barry’s filed for bankruptcy in July.

Despite statements that they’d remain open, they’re conceding to nationwide closure.

According to AP,  the chain “fell victim to the deteriorating consumer spending climate.”

So sad!
