If you’re a fashionista who’s into labels, you probably zoom right past the Payless shoe store in your mall.
But this holiday season, they’re begging you to give them a try.
First, they’ve pulled out all the stops for the season.
They’ve brought on Patricia Field, famed for her wardrobe contributions to Sex & The City.
Then add Lela Rose and Laura Poretzky with her Abaete collection.
The result? A lukewarm holiday collection with a dash of promise here and there.
Here’s how I rank them.
Loooooves It! (♥♥♥♥♥)
With the right outfit, I’ll try them. (♥♥♥)
Not if I can help it! (♥)
No matter how many luxury-loving fashionistas snub their footwear, Payless ShoeSource is still thinking ahead of its competition.
The retail chain, known for producing shoes on the cheap, is launching the first ever green footwear line.
And each pair is gonna cost under $30.
Payless has also brought on top brass to help with the venture.
They’ve hired Summer Rayne Oakes, Discovery Network’s Planet Green fashion and beauty expert and author of Style, Naturally: The Savvy Shopping Guide to Sustainable Fashion & Beauty (Chronicle Books, February 2009).
She’ll serve as the green footwear brand’s Eco Consultant.
The new brand will launch initially for women, expanding to include kids’ and men’s styles in the future.
Payless said it expects to launch the new brand name closer to when the shoes are available in stores next year.
All the designer items beyond our reach for so long are finally accessible.
In an article posted today, Forbes’ Jeanine Pogi sheds light on “Eight New Affordable Luxury Alternatives.”
H&M, Payless, Target are high on the list of retailers dotting the country that will be selling chic for cheap in the fall.
According to Pogi, labels like Lela Rose, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Alice + Olivia and Abaeté should be within reach for money-conscious fashionista.
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. today announced that it has won a preliminary injunction against Payless ShoeSource, Inc. in a trademark infringement and unfair competition lawsuit.
All that suing comes out of Payless’ use of the AMERICAN EAGLE mark for footwear and bags.
The ruling now requires Payless to adopt a clear disclaimer stating that AMERICAN EAGLE by Payless is not affiliated with AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS.
AEO contends that the discount shoe chain is deceiving consumers by portraying itself as the owner of “the youth fashion brand American Eagle®” and indicating that it is selling genuine AMERICAN EAGLE OUTFITTERS merchandise when in fact it is not.
Shame on you, Payless!
Collective Brands Inc., which operates the Payless ShoeSource and Stride-Rite shoe store chains, is paying footwear rival K-Swiss $30 million in a trademark infringement lawsuit.
The cheaper shoe company said it was not admitting any wrongdoing but that it promises to “refrain from making, advertising, promoting or selling footwear confusingly similar to that sold by K-Swiss.”
According to Associated Press reports, Payless has got until the end of the year to get rid of all remaining K-Swiss-like inventory.
After Sarah Jessica Parker’s launch of Bitten for Steve & Barry’s, another member of the SATC team is stepping out with a line of her own.
Payless ShoeSource officials are calling the line an exclusive capsule collection designed by Field, renowned for her work as stylist on the Sex & the City(R) TV series and an Oscar(R) nominee for her costume designs for “The Devil Wears Prada.”
The collection is available beginning this week in select stores and Payless.com for $25 to $35 an item.
The Patricia Field for Payless Summer Collection is broader and features four shoe styles and a clutch with a strong focus on colored metallics. Shoe silhouettes include the Princess ballet flat, Empress Roman-inspired strappy flat sandal, Tsarina mix-metallic heeled slide, and the Heiress round-toe pump.
The styles are adorned with sparkling details including faux gemstone studding and “disco ball” metallic materials guaranteed to infuse glam-rock style into any wardrobe. Shoppers can get their Patricia Field looks — just in time for the release of long-awaited Sex & the City movie — for which Field was stylist and costume designer.
“We have been thrilled to work with Patricia, America’s style icon, to style our consumer marketing, as well as to bring her designs to shoppers nationwide with the Patricia Field for Payless collection,” said Matthew Rubel, CEO and president of Payless ShoeSource.
