Lupe Fiasco for Converse
Converse’s partnership with (RED) always inspires us.

This time, they’ve rounded up rapper Lupe Fiasco,  The Edge of U2 and an impressive list of other artists to design their All-Star footwear.

The exciting new collection of designs for Spring 2009  will be available starting Feb. 1.

This is the last collection in the 1HUND(RED) Artists footwear.

Each artist’s original designs were inspired by Converse 1HUND(RED) Artist’s goal to help fight AIDS in Africa.

When you see them in stores, consider buying a pair–if not for you, for someone you love. 🙂

Depending on the products sold 5 – 15% of the net sales of CONVERSE (PRODUCT) RED shoes goes directly to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Geneva, Switzerland).

It’s that time of year again!

In counting down to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, we’ll be taking a look at the behind-the-scenes prep.

This week, it’s American Express in the spotlight.

They’ve announced their plans for February 14-15.

  • Continued support of designers and the fashion industry with a $250,000 donation to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund (CVFF), a program of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). The CVFF program helps emerging American design talent find continued success in the business of fashion by providing ongoing support.
  • The comeback of the Skybox! Platinum Card® and Gold Card members will be able to view the runway shows from the highly popular and newly-designed American Express® Skybox, providing an up-close view of the runways; packages are available today at www.americanexpress.com/entertainment.  (If you’re still balling in the midst of the recession! :p)
  • Card members will have access to highly-coveted reservations at a selection of New York’s most-buzzed about restaurants, providing additional entrée into the destinations and venues they love.

WHITE HOUSE BLACK MARKET DESIGNS

White House Black Market has created The White House Inaugural Collection.

The fashion retailer says it’s “in celebration of the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20 and inspired by the style and grace of future First Lady Michelle Obama.”

The collection includes four one-of-a-kind, handcrafted gowns available through a special charity auction in partnership with The Clothes Off Our Back Foundation.

From Jan. 5 to Jan. 15, with the starting bid at $400, you can vie for the couture gowns at ClothesOffOurBack.org (if you can afford it).

The auction benefits Clothes Off Our Back’s charities including Feeding America (formerly named America’s Second Harvest), The Art of Elysium, Hope North and H.E.L.P. Malawi.

That means whatever you spend should be tax deductible, so go bid! 😀

FashionForm

Not everybody can make it on Project Runway in the crazy competitive fashion industry.

And there’s a company out there trying to make it easier for you.

UsTrendy.com lets aspiring fashion designers upload their designs for other users to view.

Those users vote for their favorites, and the top-rated clothing is produced.

Basically, customers decide what is produced each season.

UsTrendy is currently taking submissions for its Spring 2009 Design competition.

The winning designer will score a $3,000 dollar grand prize.

It will include production and exclusive promotion and sale of their clothing line on UsTrendy.

Btw, the site was extremely busy when I logged on earlier; just give it some time, it’ll load.

In such a stinky economy, retailers are trying to make money however they can.

Now Ashely Stewart Stores has indicated that they will host  a special “Celebrating History” event on Monday, January 19, 2009.

Ashley Stewart will mark Prez-elect Obama’s inauguration by

  • offering customers a 15% discount off of their entire purchase
  • providing customers with “Yes We Can” t-shirts for $10.00 at all 218 locations.
  • providing music and entertainment in stores and light refreshments at select locations in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Chicago, DC/Baltimore, and Maryland,
  • distributing “Yes We Can” pins as a free gift with purchase for customers shopping in stores on that day

Go on into Ashley Stewart and get some free stuff.

The retailer will also be donating 5% of proceeds from the day’s sales to a scholarship fund for students at Howard University (my alma mater!!!)  in Washington, DC.

Now this is what I call a prize!

Never mind what blogs and other media say about Rachel Zoe.

I still think she’s a goddess of a stylist.

But enough about me…

YOU can win a prize valued at $10,000, which includes a trip to LA for you and a friend, a day with Rachel and $500 in shoes from Piperlime.

Enough said. Enter now.

rabbit

Donna Karan’s fall 2009 collection will be fur free.

And it’s because of Tim Gunn.

The make-it-work fashion expert has become the latest celebrity to lend his voice to animals by narrating PETA’s new skins video which he sent with a personal appeal to Donna Karan and Giorgio Armani.

The two designers are known for using rabbit fur in their collections.

Since Tim’s appeal, Donna Karan has indicated that she has “no plans” to use fur in the future.

No word from Mr. Armani yet.
