Steve & Barry’s is being sold!

The line of retail stores will be officially bought on Monday by BHY S&B Holdings LLC.

Turns out it means nothing to the customer (yet).

Under the terms of the $163 million purchase agreement, the majority of Steve & Barry’s 276 stores will continue to serve customers nationwide, according to a statement issue by the stores.

All of the collections they carry by Sarah Jessica Parker, Venus Williams, Amanda Bynes, Laird Hamilton, Ben Wallace and Bubba Watson, will remain in stores.

However, company reps did say that BHY S&B Holdings has made no decisions concerning which Steve & Barry’s stores will close or when, although an announcement is anticipated in the next week.

Patricia Field, stylist of Sex and The City and The Devil Wears Prada fame, has worked her way into millions of homes.

After launching a shoe collection for Payless Shoe Source, she’s working on another project.

She’s announced that she’ll be debuting “Patricia Field’s DESTINATION STYLE(TM) NEW YORK,” to be sold exclusively on HSN — the interactive lifestyle network beamed to 90 million TVs across America.

This September, the 50-piece limited edition collection from the Emmy Award-winning designer will be available exclusively in the U.S.

“DESTINATION STYLE(TM) NEW YORK is about having the perfect pieces for wherever your life takes you, to work, to a party to a night on the town. It’s about expressing your personal style, which is the key to always looking great!” says Field.

No word so far on the prices or the theme of the collection.

We’ll keep you posted.

I Still Hate Carrie Bradshaw and Someday When All These Women Have Bad Backs You Will Too

Fox Business blogger, Cody Willard, is on an I-Hate-Carrie tirade.

He writes:

To reiterate my rant’s main point — urban single women take the fantasies put forth on this TV show and think that they somehow should base their own lives and base the rationalizations of their own lives’ actions on it.

In Style’s Katrina Szish and many other urban women let me know that they think I’ve got it backwards…that the show’s successful because it’s based on the actual lives of urban single women.

Fact is, it’s impossible to tell what’s based on what at this point because the show itself has become such a full-on ingrained part of our culture. But when everybody tells you that “Everybody’s got a Miranda and a Samantha in their life”, somebody’s gotten confused about reality and fantasy.

I gotta tell you guys though, that after seeing the endless parade of stilettos running around Soho this weekend, I’m more convinced than ever that Sex and the City and the drunken, loose, high-fashion times that it showcases is the chicken to the egg that’s causing a lot of the drunken, loose, high-fashion times that so many urban single women are choosing to live.

Don’t get me wrong — I tend to like the way a woman looks when she walks around with her heel up propped four inches off the ground. But I recall many a women lamenting to me over the years about how the most unrealistic aspect of Sex and The City is how Carrie’s always walking and running around the city for hours on end in her four inch stilettos…

Really.

After Sarah Jessica Parker’s launch of Bitten for Steve & Barry’s, another member of the SATC team is stepping out with a line of her own.

Payless ShoeSource officials are calling the line an exclusive capsule collection designed by Field, renowned for her work as stylist on the Sex & the City(R) TV series and an Oscar(R) nominee for her costume designs for “The Devil Wears Prada.”

The collection is available beginning this week in select stores and Payless.com for $25 to $35 an item.

The Patricia Field for Payless Summer Collection is broader and features four shoe styles and a clutch with a strong focus on colored metallics. Shoe silhouettes include the Princess ballet flat, Empress Roman-inspired strappy flat sandal, Tsarina mix-metallic heeled slide, and the Heiress round-toe pump.

The styles are adorned with sparkling details including faux gemstone studding and “disco ball” metallic materials guaranteed to infuse glam-rock style into any wardrobe. Shoppers can get their Patricia Field looks — just in time for the release of long-awaited Sex & the City movie — for which Field was stylist and costume designer.

“We have been thrilled to work with Patricia, America’s style icon, to style our consumer marketing, as well as to bring her designs to shoppers nationwide with the Patricia Field for Payless collection,” said Matthew Rubel, CEO and president of Payless ShoeSource.

From Nytimes.com’s “On the Runway:”

This week for the New York premiere of “Sex and the City,” Sarah Jessica Parker wore a strapless Nina Ricci gown designed by Olivier Theyskens.

It was one of 40 outfits that Parker planned for the movie’s premieres in London and Berlin, and the press junkets. She looked glamorous and happy in the dress and was asked several times by reporters on the red carpet if it was the sort of dress that Carrie Bradshaw would have worn.

New Yorkers have no trouble seeing SJP as Carrie, and given the TV show’s name-dropping familiarity with the fashion world, what she wore to the opening was bound to get attention. It had to be stand-out.

Parker was surprised, then, to learn the morning after the premiere that the silver pleated Ricci dress had already been worn on a red-carpet—by Lauren (Davis) Santo Domingo at the Met ball, on May 5. Santo Domingo went to the Met with Theyskens.
