No matter how many luxury-loving fashionistas snub their footwear, Payless ShoeSource is still thinking ahead of its competition.

The retail chain, known for producing shoes on the cheap, is launching the first ever green footwear line.

And each pair is gonna cost under $30.

Payless has also brought on top brass to help with the venture.

They’ve hired Summer Rayne Oakes, Discovery Network’s Planet Green fashion and beauty expert and author of Style, Naturally: The Savvy Shopping Guide to Sustainable Fashion & Beauty (Chronicle Books, February 2009).

She’ll serve as the green footwear brand’s Eco Consultant.

The new brand will launch initially for women, expanding to include kids’ and men’s styles in the future.

Payless said it expects to launch the new brand name closer to when the shoes are available in stores next year.

In an article posted today, Forbes’ Jeanine Pogi sheds light on “Eight New Affordable Luxury Alternatives.” 

H&M, Payless, Target are high on the list of retailers dotting the country that will be selling chic for cheap in the fall.

According to Pogi, labels like Lela Rose, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Alice + Olivia and Abaeté should be within reach for money-conscious fashionista.

Seems like Steve Madden is signing contracts everyday!

Jones Apparel Group, Inc. announced today that it has expanded its l.e.i. (Life. Energy. Intelligence) franchise by signing an exclusive license agreement with Steven Madden, Ltd.

Steve Madden will design, manufacture and distribute a collection of junior and girls footwear under the l.e.i. brand.

The collection will be distributed exclusively to Wal-Mart stores nationwide beginning Spring 2009.

Somehow it feels like Steve Madden is cheapening its brand, or maybe Wal-Mart and JC Penney are just stepping it up.

The kids who zoom past you in the mall skating on their heels are about to get more annoying.

That’s because the creators of Heelys–the popular footwear line for kids–has created a shoe with a wheel for the 2008 holidays.

According to a company statement, the shoe will come in three new styles, including a model with glow-in-the-dark features, and get this — a new Ninja model.

Arrgghh!

Kimora is on it!

The Queen of Fabulosity has inked an exciting deal with Steve Madden.

Under the new partnership, KLS will design, manufacture, market and distribute a collection of footwear and accessories for the Fabulosity brand with Steve Madden.

With Kimora as director, the collection will include women’s footwear, handbags, belts, small leather goods, and cosmetic bags for young fashionistas.
