It’s that time of year when fashion retailers reveal their spring / summer collections.

ASOS revealed its menswear line for spring and summer of 2009 to UK and international media today.

Ian Bryder, Head of Menswear Design,, shed some light on the collection.

“For our Preppy trend – which we’ve christened ‘Preppy Tec’ – we’re presenting a sharp, contemporary take on the classic American Ivy League look but with a softer, more colourful palette,” he said.

Apparently, the line is heavily influenced by the Italian Paninaro scooter gangs that influenced terrace fashions of the 80’s and 90’s.

Some of the big players in the fashion retail industry are getting screwed by the recession.

  • Nordstrom reported that holiday sales dipped 8.0 percent compared to last year.
  • Neiman Marcus is reporting decreases of 31.2 percent in the five-week holiday period compared to 2008.
  • Macy’s, Inc. reported a 4.7 percent drop for this holiday season compared with the five weeks ended Jan. 5, 2008.
  • Gap Inc. reported a 12 percent decrease compared with last year.

But get this.

American Apparel reported that for the month of December 2008, sales for stores open for more than twelve months increased 3% over the year ago period, “on a constant currency basis.”

For the month of December 2007, comparable store sales increased 37%. There were 162 stores in the sales comparison for December 2008.

Makes you go hmmm…

And it will have the Pussycat Dolls’ stamp all over it.

They’ve stepped up to launch ‘Pussycat Dolls Shhh…by Robin Antin’ with bebe.

Both camps say the collection was inspired by the original stage show costumes and styling of the Pussycat Dolls modern burlesque troupe.

As Robin puts it, “I really went back to our roots, went back to our costumes from our original shows. The words for me on this collection are flirtatious, fashion and fun! Inside every woman lives a Pussycat Doll.”

It’s the group’s first lingerie line. The premiere collection will also be sold on
