A while ago, pieces from Victoria’s Beckham’s denim line, dvb, were hanging on racks in Debenhams.
Blogs commented in horror; the jean collection, which debuted at stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, had officially hit a rock-bottom low.
These days, Debenhams is gaining popularity…in a good way.
The UK clothing retailer has revealed that its designer sales have been boosted by the credit crunch thanks to a new type of shopper: the recessionista.
According to a statement released by the store, many shoppers are feeding their fashion addiction by turning to the store’s designer equivalentswith a ‘chic enomic’ price tag.
The retailer reported double digit sales growth across its Designer at Debenhams offer in the run up to Christmas.
They say they’ve also seen sales and profits increase and market share gains in all major clothing categories, while reducing its debt.
At least somebody’s making money!
Following in the footsteps of husband, David Beckham, Posh Spice has struck a new deal with Emporio Armani.
Reuters reports that Victoria will become an underwear model for the fashion house.
The ad campaign will roll out in Spring 2009.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) – Victoria Beckham, a regular on lists of the best-dressed celebrities, is following the lead of her famous footballer husband and stripping down to her designer underwear for an advertising campaign.
Emporio Armani on Wednesday said Beckham, who came to fame as “Posh Spice” in the British pop group the Spice Girls, will model underwear for the company in an advertising campaign set to roll out in spring next year.
She joins her husband, British soccer star David Beckham, who was the focus of a similar Armani underwear campaign this past summer that caused a stir among his fans.
Victoria Beckham, 34, posed for the pictures in the ritzy beachside community of Malibu where she lives with her husband and their three young sons.
The images were shot by fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, the same duo who took David Beckham’s underwear ad pictures.
“Victoria is a style icon, a dynamic lady whose influence and recognition will add great excitement to the continued international growth of our Emporio Armani women’s underwear business,” Giorgio Armani, the Italian designer at the head of the company, said in a statement.
It’s far from Beckham’s first venture into fashion.
She has worked as a model and four years ago she designed her own line of high-end denim jeans for Rock and Republic. She has also marketed jeans under her own label, dVb.
The Beckhams moved to Los Angeles from Britain last year so David Beckham could play soccer for the L.A. Galaxy although he is now negotiating a short-term loan to play for AC Milan from next January.

If David Beckham moves to soccer club AC Milan, Posh Spice could be heading to the fashion mecca to build an empire there.
According to the Canadian Press, it “might mean “arrivederci” for good to the Posh ‘n Becks show in America.”
Do you think the Italians might dig the failed DvB denim more than Americans do?

The fashion fraternity is saying goodbye to another stalwart.
This time, it’s Mr. Blackwell, famed for his worst-dressed lists.
No doubt some celebs are breathing a sigh of relief.
Mr. Blackwell, the fashion maven whose annual “worst-dressed” list could be the bane of Hollywood celebrities, has died at age 86, according to media reports on Monday.
Richard Blackwell, born Richard Selzer, had been in failing health for some time and in August was reported to be in a coma after a fall at his Los Angeles home.
The Los Angeles Times quoted his publicist Harlan Boll as saying the former actor and fashion designer died on Sunday afternoon in hospital of complications from an intestinal infection.
Blackwell issued his “worst-dressed” list for 48 years and it became watched around the world as much for his caustic quips about the stars’ fashion as for who made the list.
Last year he put British “Spice Girls” singer Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham at the top of his list, saying: “…in one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty ‘Posh’ Beckham can really wreck-em.”
In the No. 2 spot was British soul singer Amy Winehouse and just behind was U.S. actress Mary-Kate Olsen who, he said, “resembles a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane.”
For 35 years, Blackwell had his own clothing line. He was also acostume designer who worked with Hollywood stars such as Jayne Mansfield and Jane Russell.

Marie Claire’s written a not-so-nice review of Posh’s latest poses for Marc Jacobs’ line.
The report comes after an announcement that the designer’s campaign will not feature VB next season.
Victoria Beckham has struck another set of bizarre poses for Marc Jacobs’ latest advertising campaign.
The Spice Girl has already been shot with her legs flailing from an open carrier bag, poking out from the top of a box, and wearing a series of unflattering looks, including a dark blunt fringe.
The latest set shows a dishevelled Posh in a net-skirted black gown, with a grubby looking tan and oversized pale blue gloves, which look more suited for doing the washing up
